Update on a new road into the Wolgan Valley

The Association and the wider Wolgan Valley community have recently held a series of meetings with Lithgow City Council to discuss in more detail the plans to build us a new road into the valley. Council presented their latest road proposals to the community at a meeting in the Transformation Hub on 9 April (pictured below) and the Association followed it up with a meeting with the Mayor Cass Coleman, General Manager Ross Gurney, Johnathon Edgecombe and Chris Wassef.

The community from the Valley met with Lithgow City Council on 9 April to get an update on the road project

Through these meetings we have learned that Council is organising another independent review of whether the old Gap Road that serviced the valley for over 120 years can be economically repaired, at least for temporary usage, while the Donkey Steps is lowered, straightened and improved such that it can be converted to a public two wheel drive road. We are hopeful this path will deliver a solution much faster and more economically than the larger and more expensive plan to build a completely new third road into the valley. One thing we’ve learned the last two and a half years is that this process is long, slow and expensive for all concerned. But sadly, in the meantime we don’t have a public road into the valley and it’s obvious it will be quite a few years before we get one.
